We take our social responsibility very seriously and have been working with a number of charities since we started up in 1992.
In 1999, we decided to support Plan International, a global charity helping poor and disadvantaged children in the developing world. Plan is one of the oldest and largest children’s development organisations in the world. Working in 50 developing countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas to promote child rights and lift millions of children out of poverty.
In 2010 a team from UNIGLOBE climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and two years later, together with colleagues from other UNIGLOBE agencies trekked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, raising £37,000 for the Because I Am a Girl campaign.
We are very proud to support international development and aid but it doesn’t stop there. We also understand the importance of supporting the community in which we live and work. We actively provide assistance to a variety of different organisation. These range from those who deliver long term care for the disabled to those that support young people who are either homeless or insecurely housed.
Our support to local charities varies from making annual donations, to participating in football fundraising events and even funding a band with learning disabilities to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity of performing live to an international audience in Ireland.
The local UK charities we support include The Clock Tower Sanctuary, Centrepoint, The Rocking Horse Appeal, Carousel, Sobell House Hospice Charity, MacMillan Cancer Support and the British Heart Foundation. We are also proud sponsors of Hove Rugby Club, providing sporting opportunities for men, women and children of all ages.
We take the approach of combining innovation and practical everyday actions within our business to protect the environment. One way in which we do this is through our careful selection of suppliers. We choose and rank our partners, not only on their ability to offset their emissions, but through their capability to first prevent and minimise their carbon output.
Carbon footprint is a fact of life in this modern society and hence we were one of the first international travel management companies to offer a carbon neutral travel solution. As many of our clients share our passion for the environment, we work very closely with the leading climate change and carbon offsetting organisation, The CarbonNeutral Company.
In conjunction with our Management Information system, you can easily report on CO2 emissions; and can also use this data to offset your emissions. For instance, for every Kg of CO2 produced by your travel, by investing money in one of the CarbonNeutral Company’s reduction projects, you will save the equivalent amount of CO2, thus making travel carbon neutral as the money is being invested in new schemes that would not otherwise have existed.
We are constantly looking for greener options and are creating a mind-set amongst our employees that we can make a difference.
Uniglobe Preferred was acquired by Business Travel Direct in 2018 and the Uniglobe Preferred brand is now being retired. Clients will continue to receive the same great service from the same teams - these will now simply operate under the Business Travel Direct brand.
The change will come into full effect from January 1st 2020.
